Frequently Asked Questions About Concrete Overlays

View the index page

Q. Is the decorative overlay cooler to walk on than the concrete?

A. Because of how the material is produced, the material can dissipate the heat a lot quicker, making the surface cooler.

Q. Will existing cracks or new cracks in the concrete come through the overlay?

A. Even though we have a crack bridging process we perform, there is always a chance the cracks will mirror up through the overlay.

Q. How is a decorative overlay cleaned?

A. The use of typical household cleaners that are ammonia based can be used. Another way is to pressure wash the overlay.

Q. How long is the lifespan of a decorative overlay?

A. The decorative overlay is as good as the concrete it is bonded to and should last for many years if maintained as recommended.

Q. Will the decorative overlay colors fade?

A. No, all pigments used are UV stable.

Q. How thick is a decorative overlay?

A. The typical application is applied at 1/8 inch, although it can be applied as thin or as thick as necessary depending on the application.

Q. What are some uses for a decorative overlay?

A. Decorative concrete overlays can be used in all places where you have plain concrete, but want a more decorative look, both residential and commercial (i.e. pool decks, driveways, sidewalks, patios, etc.).

Q. What is decorative overlay?

A. Decorative overlay is a polymer modified cementicious mix designed to give excellent protective durability, while decorating new or existing concrete to simulate brick, tile, stone, slate, and other configurations.

Q. Can I match my existing color scheme?

A.  There are unlimited color combinations. We start with our 30 standard colors then mix to develop the color you desire.

Q. Will the color last?

A. Yes, the colors we use are industrial colors with a sealer integrated into the formula. The colors are not conventionally painted on the surface, therefore our process becomes part of the surface itself. We use an additional industrial sealer over the entire surface to reflect 99% harmful UV rays and protect the overlaid surface from chemical attacks and stains.

Q. Do I have unlimited design and color options?

A. Yes. There are unlimited possibilities of shape, surface texture, and color combinations in slate, tile, coble stone, random stone, simulated wood decking, brick designs, logos and much more.
